Honey cannot be considered an animal product. It is not secreted by bees like milk from a cow but is a product that derives from collecting and processing sugary resources produced by flowers – nectar – or by parts of plants – honeydew – made conservable through a process of evaporation of excess water and partial enzyme alteration. The bee’s purpose is to transform its food, abundant and perishable in summer, into valuable energy reserves for winter. At a time when nature in our climate is at rest, life inside the hive is instead very busy.
